Friday 5 for July 6: Happy ASLIRT

Questions courtesy of Scrivener. Thank you!

What are your favorite and least favorite nuts?

Roasted, salted macadamias. Least favorite: Brazilian.

What are your favorite and least favorite berries?

Marionberry, a blackberry hybrid developed in Oregon during the nineteen-fifties.
Delicious in pies.

When I heard marionberry, I asked, “The disgraced former mayor of Washington, D. C.?” Chirp, chirp, chirp. Evidently they’d heard that one before.

A marionberry pie vendor gave my friend Spewgie and me his business card. “I ship back east.” I said, “Oh, we’re not from the east.” He kind of looked at me and explained, “The ocean is one block that way. You can’t be from the west.”

Well, since you put it that way, I guess I am from the east. I must have been a little off my game that day. Spewgie will tell you that she’s never seen me on my game. Later learned that they can discern our midwest accent but we can’t hear west coast. Canadian, yes. Washington, maybe. But not northern California or Oregon.

If you like blackberries and raspberries, you will love marionberry. Slightly tart. All the flavor without the razziness.

We continued our waterfall tour along the coast. Spewgie had a marionberry daiquiri at Multnomah Falls which are 627′ feet and 150 cubic feet per second water rate.  Refreshing.

Least favorite: Have yet to try a berry that I didn’t like so I will say wild strawberries because they are so small and difficult to gather significant quantities.

What are your favorite and least favorite tropical fruits?

Bananas. Had a freshly gathered banana directly from the plant on the Caribbean island of Grenada. Very delicious.

Least favorite: Durian. Never tried it; its reputation precedes it.

What are your favorite and least favorite varieties of M&Ms?

Regular choco. There is a candy shop near me which sells light pink and dark pink M&Ms. Least favorite: Mint.

What are your favorite and least favorite raisin-containing foods?

A1 Steak Sauce. I do not remember ever having it on an actual steak. Raisin paste,
tomato purée, distilled vinegar, corn syrup, salt, orange purée,  garlic, onions, spices. The original sauce included malt vinegar, molasses, and marmalade. Kraft Foods should think about a limited throwback version.

Least favorite: Carrot raisin salad. Violates my fruits and vegetables touching rule.
